Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and responsible School Crossing Guard Supervisor to oversee the operations of our School Crossing Guard program. This crucial role involves supervising, training, and scheduling school crossing guards, ensuring their compliance with safety protocols, and maintaining effective communication with schools and the community. The supervisor will be instrumental in promoting a safe pedestrian environment for students throughout Glendale. This is a hands-on supervisory position requiring a strong commitment to public service and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, train, and evaluate a team of school crossing guards.
- Develop and manage work schedules for crossing guards across various school zones.
- Ensure all crossing guards adhere to established safety procedures and local traffic laws.
- Conduct site visits to school crossings to monitor performance and address operational issues.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for schools, parents, and community members regarding crossing guard services.
- Investigate and resolve complaints or concerns related to crossing guard performance or safety.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, incidents, and training activities.
- Order and distribute necessary equipment and supplies for crossing guards.
- Assist in the recruitment and onboarding of new crossing guards.
- Prepare reports on program effectiveness and incident trends.
- Respond to emergency situations or coverage gaps as needed.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in traffic safety, public safety, or a related field, with at least 1 year in a supervisory capacity.
- Demonstrated knowledge of pedestrian safety principles and traffic laws.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse groups.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to train and motivate staff effectively.
- Valid California Class C Driver's License.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in public administration, criminal justice, or a related field.
- Experience working with school-aged children or in an educational setting.
- Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish or English/Armenian) is highly desirable.
