Job Description
Are you an early riser with a passion for fresh food and excellent customer service? We are looking for a dedicated Seafood Prep / Fishmonger Assistant to join our vibrant team in Pontypridd. This is an exciting opportunity to learn the art of fish preparation, contribute to our fresh food department, and ensure our customers receive the highest quality products. You’ll be an essential part of our daily operations, preparing a wide variety of seafood and maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and presentation. Full training will be provided, so previous experience in fish preparation isn’t essential, but a keen eye for detail and a willingness to learn are a must. Early starts are required to ensure our counters are fully stocked and ready for our customers each day, and a uniform will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and portion a variety of fresh fish and seafood according to customer specifications and company standards.
- Assist customers with their seafood selections, offering advice on preparation and cooking methods.
- Maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the fish counter, preparation areas, and equipment to comply with food safety regulations.
- Receive, store, and rotate stock to ensure freshness and minimise waste.
- Monitor product quality and presentation, ensuring all items meet Tesco's high standards.
- Operate knives and other preparation tools safely and efficiently (training provided).
- Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Ability to work early morning shifts.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, temperature-controlled environment.
- Basic understanding of food hygiene or a willingness to undertake training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a retail or food preparation environment is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of different types of fish and seafood.
- A Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 1 or 2).
