Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Social Researcher Intern to join a think tank placement within one of Griffith University’s prominent research institutes on the Gold Coast. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in social research, policy analysis, and knowledge translation. You will work alongside experienced academics and researchers, contributing to projects that inform public discourse and policy development on critical social issues. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about research and eager to develop their skills in a dynamic, real-world setting, with full training and mentorship provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior researchers in conducting literature reviews and synthesizing existing knowledge on specific social topics.
  • Support data collection efforts, which may include surveys, interviews, or focus groups, and assist with data entry and organization.
  • Contribute to the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data under supervision, using appropriate research methodologies.
  • Draft sections of research reports, policy briefs, presentations, and other dissemination materials.
  • Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and workshops, offering insights and contributing to project discussions.
  • Support the logistical aspects of research projects, including scheduling and material preparation.

Required Skills

  • Strong interest in social issues, public policy, and research methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Sciences, Public Policy, Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, Economics, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with basic research principles and methods gained through academic coursework or projects.
  • Previous experience with data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R, NVivo) is a plus but not required.
