Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Soil Scientist (Assistant) to join our dynamic Environmental team in Brisbane. This entry-level role is ideal for recent graduates or individuals looking to start their career in environmental consulting, specifically in soil science. You will be provided with comprehensive training and mentorship, working alongside experienced professionals on a variety of exciting projects. The role involves a combination of field-based work, laboratory analysis support, and office-based reporting for environmental assessments, contaminated land investigations, and remediation projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior soil scientists with field investigations, including soil sampling and in-situ testing.
- Support the preparation of field reports, data entry, and preliminary data analysis.
- Conduct literature reviews and assist in background research for project proposals and reports.
- Learn and apply relevant environmental guidelines, standards, and regulations.
- Participate in site inductions, safety briefings, and ensure adherence to WHS procedures.
- Support laboratory coordination for sample submission and results interpretation.
- Assist with the compilation of technical reports and project documentation.
- Engage in continuous professional development and training opportunities.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Soil Science, Geology, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of soil properties, geochemistry, and environmental processes.
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Valid Australian driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with field equipment (e.g., GPS, soil augers) is a plus, but not required.
- Basic knowledge of environmental legislation pertinent to Queensland.
- Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) is advantageous.
- Participation in relevant university projects or volunteer work.
