Job Description

MV Transportation Hawaii is seeking dedicated Special Needs Transport Assistants in Kailua. This role offers unique split shifts, making it an an ideal opportunity for parents, caregivers, or anyone seeking flexibility. As a Transport Assistant, you will be responsible for safely transporting individuals with special needs to and from their destinations, including schools, appointments, and community programs. Your empathy, reliability, and commitment to safety will be paramount in providing an essential service that empowers our passengers. Full training will be provided to ensure you are confident and competent in all aspects of the role, including passenger assistance and vehicle operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate company vehicles on designated routes, adhering to all traffic laws and company policies.
- Assist passengers with boarding and de-boarding the vehicle, including securing wheelchairs and other mobility devices as needed.
- Ensure the comfort and safety of all passengers throughout the journey.
- Maintain a clean and orderly vehicle interior.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with passengers, parents/guardians, and dispatch.
- Adhere to scheduled routes and timelines, reporting any delays or issues promptly.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any maintenance needs.
- Complete necessary paperwork and daily logs accurately.
Required Skills
- Valid Hawaii Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Strong sense of empathy, patience, and compassion.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliability and punctuality are essential.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with individuals with special needs (personal or professional).
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of Kailua and surrounding Oahu areas.
- Familiarity with operating adaptive equipment (e.g., wheelchair lifts, securement systems).
