Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Specialty Baker to join our dedicated team at The Flour & Folk Bakery. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced baker who possesses a flair for creating exceptional baked goods, from sourdough and artisanal loaves to delicate patisserie and custom cakes. You will be instrumental in maintaining our high standards of quality, contributing to new product development, and ensuring our customers always receive the freshest and most delicious items. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and bake a wide variety of specialty breads, pastries, cakes, and other baked goods according to established recipes and quality standards.
  • Manage dough production, including mixing, kneading, proofing, shaping, and baking.
  • Decorate and finish cakes and pastries with precision and artistic flair.
  • Monitor ingredient inventory and place orders as needed, minimizing waste.
  • Ensure all food safety and hygiene standards are strictly adhered to.
  • Operate and maintain baking equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with the head baker and team on new product development and seasonal offerings.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation and contribute to overall kitchen cleanliness.
  • Train and mentor junior bakers or apprentices as required.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a baker, with a focus on specialty items.
  • Proficiency in various baking techniques, including sourdough, lamination, and cake decoration.
  • Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations.
  • Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as per bakery schedule.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a creative approach to baking.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Culinary degree or certificate in baking and pastry arts.
  • Experience with recipe development and costing.
  • Knowledge of different dietary requirements (e.g., gluten-free, vegan baking).
  • Proficiency in English communication.
  • Previous experience in a high-volume artisan bakery setting.
