Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive individual to join our team in a critical State Emergency Service (SES) Support role. This ongoing full-time position is pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation and effectiveness of local SES units, thereby contributing directly to the safety and well-being of the Ballina Shire community. You will provide essential administrative, logistical, and operational support, playing a vital part in emergency preparedness and response efforts. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to public safety, work alongside dedicated volunteers, and make a tangible difference in times of need.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to local SES units, including record-keeping, correspondence, and report generation.
  • Assist with the coordination of training sessions and community engagement activities.
  • Manage and maintain SES equipment inventory, ensuring readiness and compliance.
  • Facilitate communication between SES volunteers, Ballina Shire Council, and other emergency services.
  • Support logistics during emergency activations, including resource allocation and incident documentation.
  • Assist in the development and review of local emergency management plans.
  • Act as a point of contact for enquiries relating to SES activities and public safety initiatives.
  • Participate in routine operational support tasks as required by SES unit leaders.

Required Skills

  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving capabilities.
  • A genuine interest in community safety and emergency services.
  • Valid NSW Class C Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an administrative or support role, preferably within a government or emergency services context.
  • Understanding of emergency management principles and local government operations.
  • Current First Aid certification.
  • Local knowledge of the Ballina Shire region.
