Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Student Affairs Director to lead and enhance the student experience at Rutgers University – Newark. This vital role is responsible for overseeing a comprehensive range of student support services, including student conduct, orientation, leadership development, and multicultural affairs. The Director will champion student well-being, foster an inclusive campus environment, and ensure compliance with university policies and relevant regulations. This position is critical for providing a supportive and engaging atmosphere for our diverse student body, including international students, for whom visa sponsorship is available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate programs and services that promote student success, engagement, and retention.
  • Oversee student conduct processes, ensuring fairness, transparency, and adherence to university policies.
  • Lead and manage a team of student affairs professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Collaborate with academic departments, faculty, and other university units to create a seamless student experience.
  • Manage departmental budgets, resources, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Serve as a primary resource and advocate for students, addressing concerns and providing guidance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and university regulations pertinent to student affairs.
  • Develop and deliver student orientation programs for new and transfer students.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within student life.
  • Provide leadership in crisis intervention and student emergency response.

Required Skills

  • Proven leadership and management experience in student affairs or higher education administration.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Strong understanding of student development theory and best practices.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and budgets.
  • Proficiency in conflict resolution and crisis management.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations (e.g., FERPA, Title IX).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Experience working with international students and understanding of their unique needs.
  • Experience in a large, urban public university setting.
  • Familiarity with student information systems and data analysis for program evaluation.
