Job Description
Sage Group plc is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Junior Systems Administrator to join our dynamic IT team in Gateshead. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals passionate about technology and eager to kickstart a career in IT infrastructure. You will work closely with senior administrators, gaining hands-on experience in managing and maintaining our critical systems. Full training and mentorship will be provided to help you develop a strong foundation in systems administration and contribute to our operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in monitoring system performance and ensuring system availability and reliability.
- Perform routine system maintenance tasks, including backups, patching, and updates.
- Provide first-line support for system-related issues, troubleshooting problems, and escalating as necessary.
- Help manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights across various platforms.
- Document IT procedures, system configurations, and maintain inventory records.
- Learn and implement security best practices to protect company data and infrastructure.
- Collaborate with team members on various IT projects and initiatives.
- Participate in on-call rotation as experience grows, supporting critical systems.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of operating systems (Windows Server, Linux distributions).
- Familiarity with fundamental network concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Eagerness to learn new technologies and a proactive, can-do attitude.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
- Basic scripting knowledge (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) for automation tasks.
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
- Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure, AWS).
- Any relevant IT certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Server+).
