Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Tax Manager to join our dynamic team in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. This role offers an excellent opportunity to manage a diverse portfolio of clients, providing expert tax advice and ensuring compliance with UK tax regulations. You will be responsible for leading client engagements, developing junior staff, and contributing to the growth of our tax practice. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical tax knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to build client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of corporate and/or private client tax clients, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of tax compliance services.
- Provide expert tax advice on complex tax issues, including corporate tax, income tax, capital gains tax, and VAT.
- Identify and implement tax planning opportunities for clients to optimize their tax position.
- Supervise and mentor junior tax professionals, fostering their development and growth within the team.
- Review tax computations, returns, and other tax-related documentation.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, understanding their business needs and identifying opportunities for additional services.
- Represent clients in dealings with HMRC and other tax authorities.
- Stay updated with changes in tax legislation and communicate implications to clients and team members.
- Contribute to business development initiatives and proposals.
Required Skills
- ACCA, ACA, or CTA qualification (or equivalent)
- Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in UK tax within a professional services firm
- Strong technical knowledge of UK corporate and/or personal tax legislation
- Proven experience in managing a client portfolio and leading engagements
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client-facing skills
- Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with international tax matters
- Knowledge of specialized tax areas such as R&D tax credits or M&A tax
- Previous experience in a managerial or supervisory role
- Master's degree in Taxation or a related field
