Job Description
Are you passionate about science and seeking an entry-level opportunity to start a rewarding career in forensic science? The Connecticut State Forensics Bureau is looking for a dedicated and eager Trainee Forensic Lab Assistant to join our team in Danbury. This is an exciting entry-level government role where no prior experience is required; we are committed to providing comprehensive, on-the-job training to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to excel. You will work under direct supervision, assisting experienced forensic scientists and technicians with various laboratory tasks, contributing to critical forensic investigations.
Key Responsibilities
- Learn and apply basic laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
- Assist forensic scientists and technicians with the preparation of samples and reagents.
- Perform routine laboratory tasks such as cleaning glassware, sterilizing equipment, and maintaining inventory.
- Document and maintain accurate records of laboratory activities and results under supervision.
- Help with the organization and proper storage of evidence and laboratory supplies.
- Operate and maintain basic laboratory equipment after receiving appropriate training.
- Adhere to all state and federal regulations, as well as internal policies and quality control standards.
- Participate actively in all required training and development programs.
- Contribute to a clean, organized, and efficient laboratory environment.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Strong interest in science, particularly chemistry or biology.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions meticulously and pay close attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications
- Some college coursework in a scientific discipline (e.g., biology, chemistry, forensic science).
