Job Description
GHD is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Dam Inspector to join our Civil Infrastructure team in Canning Vale, WA. In this vital role, you will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections of various dam structures and associated civil infrastructure to ensure their integrity, safety, and compliance with all relevant standards and regulations. This position requires a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of civil engineering principles, and a commitment to public safety. You will contribute directly to the longevity and reliability of critical water management infrastructure across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine and ad-hoc visual inspections of dam structures, spillways, outlets, and related civil infrastructure.
- Identify and document any signs of distress, damage, erosion, or potential failure points.
- Utilize specialized equipment for data collection and analysis, where required.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports, including photographic evidence and recommended corrective actions.
- Liaise with engineering teams, maintenance crews, and regulatory bodies regarding inspection findings.
- Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of remedial works.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and national dam safety guidelines and environmental regulations.
- Participate in emergency response planning and drills related to dam safety.
- Maintain accurate records of all inspections and maintenance activities.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of civil engineering principles and infrastructure.
- Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and engineering specifications.
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various outdoor environments.
- Competency in preparing clear and concise written reports.
- Valid Australian driver's license.
- Basic computer skills (MS Office Suite).
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
- Previous experience (2+ years) in dam safety, heavy civil construction, or infrastructure inspection.
- Knowledge of Australian dam safety standards and guidelines (e.g., ANCOLD guidelines).
- Familiarity with remote sensing technologies or GIS for inspection purposes.
- Confined space entry certification.
