Job Description

Join the United States Postal Service as a Trainee Postal Fleet Mechanic and embark on a rewarding apprenticeship opportunity. You will receive comprehensive, hands-on training under the guidance of experienced technicians, learning to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain a diverse fleet of postal vehicles. This is a full-time, on-site role that provides a clear path to becoming a certified Postal Fleet Mechanic.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in all aspects of the apprenticeship program, demonstrating eagerness to learn.
  • Assist experienced mechanics with routine vehicle inspections and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Learn to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Perform basic repairs and adjustments on engines, transmissions, brakes, and other vehicle systems.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Document maintenance and repair activities accurately.
  • Develop proficiency in identifying and utilizing various tools and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Comply with all USPS policies, procedures, and safety regulations.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid state driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) if required for specific vehicle types.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and a genuine interest in automotive repair.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals and schematics (training provided).
  • Strong work ethic and a commitment to learning a new trade.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 70 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work in various weather conditions.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous coursework or vocational training in automotive technology is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with basic computer applications.
