Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in extensive training programs covering wildlife management, conservation law, and enforcement procedures.
  • Assist experienced Wildlife Conservation Officers in patrol duties and monitoring wildlife populations.
  • Learn to identify various species of wildlife, their habitats, and ecological needs.
  • Support public education and outreach initiatives regarding wildlife conservation and safety.
  • Aid in the collection of biological data and maintain accurate records of observations and activities.
  • Help maintain and care for equipment and vehicles used in field operations.
  • Respond to public inquiries and incidents related to wildlife in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and departmental policies while performing duties.

Required Skills

  • No prior experience required – full, paid training will be provided.
  • Strong passion for wildlife, nature, and environmental conservation.
  • Ability to work effectively outdoors in various weather conditions and challenging terrains.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with the public and team members.
  • Demonstrated reliability, responsibility, and a strong work ethic.
  • Capacity for problem-solving and critical thinking.
  • Physical fitness to perform duties that may involve walking, lifting, and prolonged periods of standing.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and follow instructions from senior officers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver's License and a clean driving record.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain.
  • Basic computer literacy for record-keeping and communication.
  • Knowledge of local flora and fauna of Manitoba is an asset but not required.
