Job Description

We are seeking a talented and experienced Tunneling Engineer to join our dynamic infrastructure team in Reading. This is an exceptional opportunity for an individual with a passion for underground engineering to contribute to major projects across the UK and internationally. We are committed to supporting global talent and offer Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) and visa sponsorship for qualified candidates. You will be involved in the design, analysis, and construction support for a variety of tunneling projects, including rail, road, water, and utility tunnels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design for various tunneling structures, including segmental linings, SCL/NATM tunnels, and shafts.
  • Develop technical specifications, drawings, and reports for tunneling projects.
  • Utilize finite element analysis (FEA) software for complex geotechnical and structural interactions.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, clients, and contractors to ensure project success.
  • Provide technical support during tender, construction, and post-construction phases.
  • Undertake site visits and inspections as required.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and safety regulations.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrable experience in the design and analysis of tunnels or underground structures.
  • Proficiency in relevant design software (e.g., Plaxis, Oasys, AutoCAD, Revit).
  • Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and structural engineering principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or actively working towards it.
  • Experience with BIM methodologies in tunneling projects.
  • Familiarity with UK tunneling standards and specifications.
  • Project management experience on small to medium-sized projects.
