Job Description
Everyday Music is seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Part-Time Vinyl Record Shop Assistant to join our team in Portland. This entry-level role is perfect for passionate music lovers eager to immerse themselves in the world of records and retail. No prior experience in a record shop is required; we are committed to providing full training to the right candidate. You will play a vital role in creating a welcoming atmosphere for our customers, assisting them in finding their next favorite album, and ensuring the shop remains organized and inviting.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist customers with a friendly and helpful demeanor, providing recommendations and product information.
- Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system accurately to process sales, returns, and exchanges.
- Receive, unbox, and organize new inventory of vinyl records, CDs, and other merchandise.
- Maintain a tidy and appealing sales floor, including shelving records, dusting, and general upkeep.
- Assist with visual merchandising, creating engaging displays to highlight new arrivals or special collections.
- Answer incoming phone calls and respond to customer inquiries in person.
- Support the management team with various tasks to ensure smooth daily operations.
Required Skills
- A genuine passion for music and a willingness to learn about diverse genres and artists.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Reliability and punctuality with strong organizational abilities.
- Basic computer literacy and comfort with learning new systems (POS).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs, and navigate stairs (if applicable).
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with various music genres, artists, and record labels.
- Previous retail or customer service experience (though not required).
- Interest in music history and current trends.
- Experience with inventory management or merchandising.
