Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Fleet Operations Manager to join our dynamic team in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. This critical role involves overseeing all aspects of our fleet operations, ensuring optimal performance, compliance, and cost-effectiveness. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team, optimising routes, maintaining vehicle standards, and ensuring all regulatory requirements are met. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of drivers and operational staff, fostering a culture of safety and high performance.
  • Oversee the daily planning, scheduling, and deployment of the fleet to meet operational demands and service level agreements.
  • Ensure all vehicles are maintained to the highest standards, coordinating with maintenance teams for servicing and repairs.
  • Monitor and manage fuel efficiency, vehicle utilisation, and other key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Ensure strict compliance with all transport regulations, including driver hours, vehicle weights, and road safety legislation.
  • Manage operational budgets, identifying cost-saving opportunities and ensuring financial targets are met.
  • Implement and refine operational processes to enhance efficiency and service quality.
  • Handle incident reporting, investigations, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments, including customer service, warehousing, and human resources.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in fleet management or transport operations.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent understanding of UK transport regulations (e.g., HGV, driver hours, tachographs).
  • Proficiency in fleet management software and systems.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Haulage.
  • Experience with international logistics and cross-border operations.
  • Project management experience.
  • Familiarity with telematics and advanced route optimisation tools.
