Job Description
Are you a passionate music enthusiast with an unwavering love for vinyl records? HMV in Portsmouth is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Part-Time Vinyl Record Shop Assistant to join our dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who lives and breathes music to immerse themselves in a world of sound, share their passion with customers, and contribute to the lively atmosphere of our store. No prior retail experience is necessary – we are primarily looking for genuine music lovers eager to learn, and full training will be provided to ensure your success in the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist customers with a friendly and approachable attitude, helping them discover new music and locate specific items.
- Process sales accurately and efficiently using our point-of-sale system, handling cash, card, and other payment methods.
- Organise, replenish, and merchandise stock, ensuring vinyl records and other products are neatly displayed, correctly priced, and appealing.
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and inviting shop floor, performing basic cleaning duties as required.
- Stay informed about new releases, reissues, artist news, and general music trends to provide informed recommendations and engage with customers.
- Assist with creating engaging visual displays to highlight promotions and new arrivals.
- Support the store management team with various daily operations and administrative tasks as needed.
Required Skills
- A genuine and demonstrable passion for music, particularly vinyl records, across diverse genres.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage enthusiastically and respectfully with customers and colleagues.
- A positive, 'can-do' attitude and a strong willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Basic numeracy and computer literacy for operating point-of-sale systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a retail or customer service role.
- Knowledge of music history, artists, different audio formats, and record labels.
- Familiarity with inventory management or merchandising principles.
