Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Public Health Nurses to join our dynamic team in Markham, Ontario. This vital role involves working directly within the community to promote health, prevent disease, and provide essential services to diverse populations, including newcomers. Key Responsibilities
- Assess individual and community health needs and develop tailored health promotion and disease prevention strategies.
- Deliver public health programs and services in various settings, including schools, clinics, homes, and community centres.
- Provide immunizations, conduct health screenings, and manage communicable disease investigations.
- Educate individuals, families, and groups on health topics such as nutrition, parenting, sexual health, and chronic disease management.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, community organizations, and government agencies to ensure coordinated care and services.
- Document client interactions, maintain accurate records, and contribute to public health surveillance.
- Advocate for policies and programs that support health equity and address social determinants of health.
- Provide nursing expertise and support to clients navigating the Canadian healthcare system, particularly for new immigrants.
Required Skills
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) or eligibility to register.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or equivalent from a recognized university.
- Demonstrated knowledge of public health principles, practices, and legislation.
- Strong assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and cultural sensitivity skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Proficiency in English; additional language skills are an asset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Public Health or a related field.
- Previous experience in a public health setting or community nursing.
- Experience working with diverse populations, including newcomers and immigrant communities.
- Certification in specific public health areas (e.g., immunizations, communicable disease management).
