Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Recycling Education Officer to join our community outreach team. This pivotal role involves designing and delivering educational programs to schools, community groups, and the general public throughout the Tuggeranong district and wider ACT. You will be instrumental in raising awareness about proper waste separation, recycling guidelines, and the benefits of a circular economy, empowering residents to make positive environmental choices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging recycling and waste education programs to various community groups, schools, and businesses.
  • Organise and participate in community events, workshops, and school incursions to promote waste minimisation and recycling initiatives.
  • Create and update educational materials, including presentations, brochures, and online content, in line with current waste management policies.
  • Respond to community inquiries regarding recycling and waste disposal, providing accurate and helpful information.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to enhance program effectiveness and reach.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of educational campaigns and community engagement activities.
  • Stay informed about best practices in waste management, recycling technologies, and environmental education.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering educational or community outreach programs.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of current recycling practices and waste management principles.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Education, Community Development, or a related field.
  • Experience working with local government or in the waste management sector.
  • Familiarity with the Australian Capital Territory's waste management strategies and environmental policies.
  • Experience in social media engagement for educational purposes.
