Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and calm Ambulance Dispatch Assistant to join our critical operations team in Joondalup. This entry-level role is perfect for individuals with strong communication skills, an empathetic nature, and the ability to perform under pressure. As an Ambulance Dispatch Assistant, you will be the first point of contact for emergency calls, playing a crucial role in coordinating our ambulance responses and ensuring patients receive timely care. Full training will be provided to equip you with the skills necessary to excel in this high-impact environment. Your ability to think quickly, remain composed, and provide clear instructions will be paramount.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and healthcare professionals.
- Accurately gather critical information regarding incidents, patient conditions, and locations.
- Prioritise calls based on urgency and established protocols.
- Dispatch ambulance crews efficiently using Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Maintain clear and concise communication with ambulance crews, ensuring they have all necessary information.
- Monitor the status and location of all deployed units.
- Provide basic pre-arrival instructions to callers in emergency situations.
- Document all call details and dispatch actions accurately in the system.
- Collaborate with other emergency services as required.
- Adhere to all operational policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
Required Skills
- Exceptional verbal communication skills, including active listening and clear articulation.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and professional in high-stress situations.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.
- Basic computer literacy and ability to learn new software quickly.
- Excellent data entry and accuracy skills.
- Strong geographical knowledge of the Joondalup and surrounding Perth metropolitan area.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a customer service, call centre, or administrative role.
- First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
