Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and community-focused Library Service Assistant to join our dedicated team at the Port Augusta Local Council Hub. This role is essential in delivering high-quality customer service, assisting patrons with their inquiries, managing library resources, and supporting various library programs. You will be a friendly face for our community, helping to ensure the library remains a central and accessible resource for all.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service to library patrons, assisting with inquiries, locating resources, and managing borrowings/returns.
- Assist patrons with public access computers, printing, scanning, and basic technical support.
- Process new library materials, including cataloguing, covering, and shelving.
- Maintain the order and tidiness of library collections, ensuring materials are correctly shelved and accessible.
- Support the planning and execution of library programs and events for various age groups.
- Handle cash transactions and maintain accurate records for fines and fees.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures, ensuring the library is secure and ready for operation.
- Contribute to a positive and welcoming library environment for all visitors.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated customer service experience in a public-facing role.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and willingness to learn library-specific software.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- A genuine interest in community service and promoting literacy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a library or information services environment.
- Relevant certifications in customer service or library services.
- Knowledge of library classification systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal).
