Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Lead Paint Abatement Technician to join our growing team in Salford. As a Specialised Lead Paint Abatement Tech, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently removing lead-based paint from various structures, ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations. This role requires a meticulous approach, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to protecting both our clients and the environment. You will work on diverse projects across the Greater Manchester area, contributing to the remediation of hazardous materials and creating safer living and working environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough site inspections and risk assessments for lead paint abatement projects.
- Implement and adhere to strict safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and containment systems.
- Prepare work areas by sealing off contaminated zones and setting up negative air pressure systems.
- Utilize various methods for lead paint removal, such as scraping, chemical stripping, and abrasive blasting, in accordance with industry standards.
- Properly bag, label, and dispose of hazardous waste materials.
- Operate and maintain specialized equipment for lead abatement and air monitoring.
- Perform post-abatement cleaning and site restoration.
- Maintain detailed records of work performed, including daily logs, material usage, and waste manifests.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, and team members.
- Ensure all work complies with relevant UK health and safety legislation (e.g., COSHH, Control of Lead at Work Regulations).
Required Skills
- Proven experience in lead paint abatement or hazardous material remediation (minimum 2 years).
- Current certification in lead abatement (e.g., NVQ Level 2 in Removal of Hazardous Waste – Lead).
- Thorough understanding of lead abatement techniques, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to wear and work in full PPE, including respirators.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow complex procedures.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to varying site conditions.
- Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy equipment and work in challenging environments.
- Valid UK driving licence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional certifications in asbestos removal or other hazardous material handling.
- Experience with air monitoring and sampling equipment.
- First Aid certification.
- CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
