Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and reliable Water Meter Reader to join our Utility Services team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for accurately reading water meters across the Port Macquarie-Hastings region, ensuring precise billing and contributing to the efficient management of our water resources. This position requires an individual who is comfortable working independently outdoors, possesses excellent attention to detail, and is committed to delivering consistent and accurate results. You will play a crucial part in the council’s ongoing efforts to maintain and improve our community’s infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately read and record water meter data on a daily basis using handheld electronic devices.
- Navigate designated routes efficiently and safely across diverse terrain and weather conditions.
- Identify and report any damaged meters, leaks, or unusual consumption patterns.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with residents when necessary, addressing inquiries or concerns regarding meter reading procedures.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and traffic regulations while performing duties.
- Maintain accurate records and complete necessary paperwork promptly.
- Operate and maintain a council vehicle responsibly.
- Assist with other utility-related tasks as required.
Required Skills
- Valid Australian Class C Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
- Good physical fitness to walk long distances and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Basic computer literacy and comfort using handheld electronic devices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in meter reading or a similar field.
- Knowledge of the Port Macquarie-Hastings region.
- Current First Aid certification.
