Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric / Mental Health Nurses to join our team in Grand Falls-Windsor. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, including risk assessments, for individuals across the lifespan.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
- Administer medications, monitor effects, and provide education on pharmacotherapy.
- Provide therapeutic interventions, including crisis intervention, counselling, and psychoeducation.
- Manage and respond to acute psychiatric emergencies and behavioural escalations.
- Maintain accurate and thorough patient records and documentation.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, social workers, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Advocate for patient rights and ensure a safe, supportive, and therapeutic environment.
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Active registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL).
- Demonstrated knowledge of mental health nursing principles, practices, and psychopharmacology.
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent therapeutic communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in electronic health record documentation.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or equivalent.
- Previous experience in psychiatric or mental health nursing.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Experience with crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques (e.g., Non-Violent Crisis Intervention).
- Understanding of the Canadian healthcare system for international applicants.
