Job Description

Elliot Hospital is seeking a skilled and dedicated Medical Technologist to join our dynamic laboratory team. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform complex and routine laboratory tests in areas such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and blood bank.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
  • Analyze and interpret test results, ensuring accuracy and precision.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies or unusual test results; perform troubleshooting procedures.
  • Adhere to quality control policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy of all tests.
  • Prepare specimens for testing and analyze them according to established protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of tests performed, results, and quality control data.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide critical diagnostic information.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as hospital policies.
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development activities.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related science field.
  • ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) certification or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical Technologist in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Proficiency in performing tests in multiple laboratory departments (e.g., chemistry, hematology, microbiology).
  • Strong understanding of laboratory quality control and assurance procedures.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot a variety of laboratory instruments.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Medical Technology or a related field.
  • Experience with LIS (Laboratory Information Systems) specific to Elliot Hospital (e.g., Epic/Beaker).
  • Specialization or advanced certification in a specific laboratory discipline (e.g., Blood Bank Specialist).
  • Experience training junior staff or students.
