Job Description
Elliot Hospital is seeking a skilled and dedicated Medical Technologist to join our dynamic laboratory team. The Medical Technologist will perform a wide range of laboratory tests, from routine to complex, on biological specimens for use in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex and routine laboratory tests in areas such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and blood bank.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
- Analyze and interpret test results, ensuring accuracy and precision.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies or unusual test results; perform troubleshooting procedures.
- Adhere to quality control policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy of all tests.
- Prepare specimens for testing and analyze them according to established protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of tests performed, results, and quality control data.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide critical diagnostic information.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as hospital policies.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development activities.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related science field.
- ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) certification or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical Technologist in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Proficiency in performing tests in multiple laboratory departments (e.g., chemistry, hematology, microbiology).
- Strong understanding of laboratory quality control and assurance procedures.
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot a variety of laboratory instruments.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Medical Technology or a related field.
- Experience with LIS (Laboratory Information Systems) specific to Elliot Hospital (e.g., Epic/Beaker).
- Specialization or advanced certification in a specific laboratory discipline (e.g., Blood Bank Specialist).
- Experience training junior staff or students.
