Job Description
Join WestRock as a Shipping Crate Builder (Mate) and become an essential part of our logistics and packaging team in St. Joseph, MO. In this hands-on role, you will assist in constructing custom wooden shipping crates for a variety of products, ensuring their safe transit. We are looking for individuals with a basic understanding of woodworking, comfortable with power tools, especially nail guns, and a keen eye for detail. This is an excellent opportunity to hone your craft in a supportive and safety-focused environment, contributing directly to our operational excellence. Full training on specific company procedures and safety protocols will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist skilled builders in constructing wooden crates and pallets according to specifications.
- Operate power tools, including nail guns, saws, and measuring equipment, safely and efficiently.
- Measure, cut, and assemble wooden components with precision.
- Inspect finished crates for quality, stability, and adherence to design standards.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to all safety guidelines.
- Assist with material handling, loading, and unloading as needed.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to meet production targets.
Required Skills
- Basic knowledge of woodworking principles and techniques.
- Familiarity with operating hand and power tools, especially nail guns.
- Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints or schematics.
- Strong attention to detail and precision in measurements.
- Commitment to safety procedures and practices.
- Physical ability to lift heavy materials and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a manufacturing, construction, or carpentry setting.
