Job Description
Are you passionate about the construction industry and eager to kickstart your career? Hansen Yuncken is seeking a motivated Junior Estimator (Cadet) to join our dynamic team in Hobart. This is a fantastic entry-level opportunity for individuals with little to no prior experience, offering comprehensive training and mentorship to develop essential estimating skills. You will play a crucial role in supporting our senior estimators, learning the intricacies of project costing, tender preparation, and material take-offs. If you have a keen eye for detail, strong numerical aptitude, and a desire to learn, we encourage you to apply!
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior estimators with data entry, documentation, and administrative tasks related to project tenders.
- Learn to interpret architectural drawings and specifications to assist with material and labour take-offs.
- Support the preparation of tender submissions, including obtaining quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Maintain and update estimating databases and cost libraries.
- Conduct research on market pricing for materials, equipment, and labour.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure accurate estimates.
- Participate in training sessions and professional development initiatives.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- A strong eagerness to learn and develop a career in construction estimating.
Preferred Qualifications
- A basic understanding or keen interest in the construction and trades industry.
- Exposure to CAD software or willingness to learn.
- Enrolment or completion of a vocational course in construction, engineering, or a related field.
