Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Lobbying & Government Relations Intern to join our team on Capitol Hill. This is an unparalleled opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fast-paced world of government affairs and public policy. The intern will support our Government Relations professionals in monitoring legislative developments, conducting policy research, and assisting with advocacy efforts. This role offers exposure to the intersection of technology, business, and policy-making within a dynamic federal environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth research on legislative proposals, policy issues, and political landscapes relevant to IBM's interests.
- Monitor congressional hearings, committee markups, and other legislative activities on Capitol Hill.
- Assist in preparing briefing materials, policy memos, and presentations for senior leadership and government officials.
- Track legislation and regulatory changes, providing summaries and impact analyses.
- Support the coordination of meetings with congressional staff, trade associations, and other stakeholders.
- Attend external events, seminars, and coalition meetings, representing the Government Relations team.
- Perform administrative duties as needed to support the efficient operation of the Government Relations office.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program, preferably in Political Science, Public Policy, International Relations, Law, Communications, or a related field.
- Demonstrated interest in public policy, government affairs, and the legislative process.
- Exceptional research, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, professional environment.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a legislative office, political campaign, advocacy organization, or similar setting (volunteer experience is welcome).
- Familiarity with legislative tracking systems or government databases.
- Understanding of current technology policy issues.
- Ability to quickly synthesize complex information and present it clearly and concisely.
