Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented individual to join our team as Government Environmental Support – Green Focus. This role is crucial in assisting with the implementation and monitoring of environmental policies and programs across the City of Greater Geraldton. You will contribute to various green initiatives, including waste management strategies, biodiversity conservation, sustainable land use planning, and community environmental education. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to make a tangible impact on local environmental outcomes and support the City’s commitment to a greener future.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the coordination and implementation of local environmental projects and programs.
- Conduct field observations and data collection related to environmental monitoring.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and correspondence on environmental activities and compliance.
- Support the development and review of environmental policies, plans, and guidelines.
- Engage with community groups, businesses, and residents to promote environmental awareness and participation.
- Maintain environmental records and databases, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
- Assist with environmental impact assessments for council projects and proposals.
- Provide administrative support to the environmental services team.
Required Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Demonstrated interest in environmental sustainability and conservation
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field
- Experience with GIS software or environmental data management systems
- Knowledge of Australian environmental legislation and local government processes
- Current Western Australian C-Class Driver's License
