Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced APS6 Policy Officer to join our dynamic team on the Gold Coast. This is a critical role within a top-tier government department, offering the opportunity to contribute to significant national policy initiatives. You will be instrumental in research, analysis, and the development of policy advice to inform government decisions that directly impact the lives of Australians. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of policy development cycles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake research and analysis on complex policy issues, preparing briefs, submissions, and advice for senior management and ministerial offices.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of government policies and programs.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including other government agencies, community organisations, and the public, to gather information and build consensus.
  • Monitor policy outcomes and provide evidence-based recommendations for improvements or adjustments.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and correspondence to communicate policy positions and findings.
  • Support senior policy officers and managers in various project management and administrative tasks related to policy development.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in policy development, analysis, or program management within a government or related environment.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesise complex information and draw sound conclusions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise, and persuasive policy advice.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in public policy, law, economics, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience working with parliamentary processes and government decision-making frameworks.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation and policy frameworks pertaining to social services in Australia.
