Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and articulate Ministerial Liaison Officer to join our dynamic Government Communications team in Bristol. This pivotal role involves facilitating seamless communication between government ministers, their private offices, and various departmental teams, particularly concerning policy development and public messaging. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring that ministerial priorities are accurately represented in communications strategies and that information flows efficiently to support government objectives. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, discretion, and a keen understanding of the political landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary point of contact for ministerial private offices, parliamentary teams, and other government departments.
- Draft, review, and edit briefing materials, press releases, speeches, and parliamentary questions for ministerial use, ensuring accuracy and policy alignment.
- Coordinate responses to public inquiries and media requests, liaising with relevant policy experts and communications teams.
- Monitor media coverage and public sentiment, providing concise summaries and strategic advice to ministers and senior officials.
- Assist in the planning and execution of ministerial visits, public engagements, and media events.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of government policies, legislative developments, and key political issues.
- Manage and prioritize a diverse workload, often under tight deadlines and in a fast-paced environment.
- Ensure strict adherence to government communication protocols and data protection regulations.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a communications, public relations, or administrative role within a political, governmental, or complex public sector environment (minimum 36 months).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear, concise, and persuasive content.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities, capable of handling multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Demonstrated understanding of the UK political system and parliamentary procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and build strong professional relationships.
- High level of discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Political Science, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
