Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Tunneling Engineer to join our dynamic team in Calgary, AB. As a Tunneling Engineer, you will be instrumental in the design, analysis, and construction support of various tunneling and underground infrastructure projects. You will contribute to all phases of project delivery, from feasibility studies and conceptual design through to detailed engineering and construction supervision, ensuring safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Performing geotechnical and structural analyses for tunnel designs using advanced software.
- Developing detailed design drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
- Assisting with site investigations, ground characterization, and risk assessments.
- Providing technical support during tender preparation and construction phases.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and contractors to achieve project objectives.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant engineering codes, standards, and safety regulations.
- Contributing to the preparation of proposals and pursuit efforts for new projects.
- Mentoring junior engineers and promoting knowledge sharing within the team.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in tunneling or underground construction projects.
- Proficiency in geotechnical and structural analysis software (e.g., PLAXIS, FLAC, SOILVISION, MIDAS Civil).
- Solid understanding of tunneling methods (TBM, NATM/SCL, Cut & Cover) and ground support systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Eligibility for professional engineering licensure in Canada (P.Eng.) or willingness to obtain it.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering or Structural Engineering with a focus on underground structures.
- Experience with Canadian tunneling projects or design standards.
- Project management experience in an engineering consulting environment.
- Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) and CAD software.
