Job Description
Are you a student looking to gain invaluable practical experience in the field of surveying? Eyre Peninsula Surveying & Mapping offers a unique opportunity for enthusiastic students to join our team as a Surveying Assistant. This temporary position is designed to provide hands-on experience in various aspects of land surveying, working alongside experienced professionals on active projects throughout the Port Lincoln area and wider Eyre Peninsula. You will learn fundamental surveying techniques, operate modern equipment, and contribute to real-world data collection. This role is perfect for someone eager to apply their academic knowledge in a dynamic outdoor environment and build a foundation for a career in surveying.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist survey crews with setting up and operating surveying instruments (total stations, GPS, levels).
- Clear vegetation, dig survey marks, and carry equipment across various terrains.
- Accurately record field data and measurements as directed by the Senior Surveyor.
- Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are clean and in good working order.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and site-specific regulations.
- Learn and apply basic surveying principles and methodologies.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a relevant tertiary program (e.g., surveying, civil engineering, geomatics).
- Strong enthusiasm for outdoor work and physical fitness.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively in a team.
- Excellent communication skills and a strong work ethic.
- Valid driver's license (preferred but not essential for entry-level).
- A commitment to safety and quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in outdoor work or manual labor is a plus but not required.
- Basic understanding of surveying concepts (from coursework).
- First Aid certificate (desirable).
