Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate individual to join our Public Health team as a Trainee Contact Tracer. This is an entry-level position designed for individuals eager to start a career in public health, with no prior experience required. We will provide comprehensive training to equip you with the necessary skills to effectively perform contact tracing activities, play a crucial role in preventing the spread of infectious diseases, and support our community’s well-being. This role is vital to our public health efforts, helping us to identify, notify, and monitor individuals who may have been exposed to communicable diseases.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete extensive training on contact tracing protocols, interview techniques, and data management systems.
- Conduct confidential interviews with individuals who have tested positive for infectious diseases to identify close contacts.
- Communicate with identified contacts to inform them of potential exposure, provide information on self-quarantine/isolation, and recommend testing.
- Provide accurate information about disease symptoms, transmission, prevention, and available resources.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of all interviews and communications using designated software.
- Follow established scripts, policies, and procedures for all communications and data collection.
- Collaborate with public health officials and healthcare providers to ensure coordinated responses.
- Address concerns and answer questions from individuals with empathy and clarity.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development as required.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate sensitive information with empathy and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic computer proficiency, including data entry and navigating web-based applications.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable internet access and a quiet workspace if any remote work components are introduced after initial training (though primarily on-site).
- Commitment to public health principles and community service.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish, Haitian Creole, or other languages prevalent in the community).
- Previous experience in customer service, call center, or community outreach roles.
- Familiarity with medical terminology or public health concepts.
