Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and driven Industrial Design Intern to join our Consumer Electronics team in Sydney, Nova Scotia. This is an incredible opportunity for a student or recent graduate to gain practical experience in the design and development of cutting-edge consumer products. You will work alongside experienced industrial designers and engineers, contributing to various stages of the design process, from concept generation and sketching to 3D modeling and prototyping. This role demands creativity, attention to detail, and a strong desire to learn and grow within a fast-paced, innovative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in brainstorming and concept generation for new consumer electronic products.
- Develop sketches, renderings, and visual presentations to communicate design ideas.
- Create 3D models using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Rhino, Fusion 360).
- Support the team in building physical prototypes and mock-ups.
- Conduct research on market trends, competitor products, and user needs.
- Prepare design documentation and specifications.
- Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback.
- Collaborate with engineering and marketing teams to ensure design feasibility and market appeal.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating creativity, problem-solving skills, and aesthetic sensibility.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Rhino, Fusion 360).
- Proficiency in 2D rendering and graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Keyshot).
- Excellent sketching and visual communication skills.
- Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and materials.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with physical prototyping and model making.
- Experience with user research methodologies.
- Knowledge of consumer electronics trends and technologies.
- Experience with rendering engines like V-Ray or Octane.
