Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable individual to join our Fish Market team as an Ice Shoveler. In this essential role, you will be responsible for ensuring our premium seafood displays are consistently chilled and impeccably presented. This involves regularly shoveling, distributing, and replenishing ice to maintain optimal freshness and visual appeal for our customers. You will work in a fast-paced, cold, and wet environment, contributing directly to the high standards of our fresh produce department. Full training will be provided, making this an excellent entry-level opportunity for reliable candidates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regularly shovel and distribute ice across all fish and seafood display counters.
  • Monitor and replenish ice levels throughout the day to ensure consistent chilling.
  • Assist with the daily setup and breakdown of fish market displays.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the fish counter, equipment, and surrounding areas.
  • Adhere strictly to all food safety and health and safety regulations.
  • Assist with the careful unloading and proper storage of incoming seafood deliveries.
  • Work efficiently and safely within a cold, wet, and dynamic environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure smooth operations and high standards.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including repetitive lifting (up to 25kg), bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Reliability and a strong, proactive work ethic.
  • Excellent attention to detail for maintaining presentable and hygienic displays.
  • Comfortable working consistently in cold and wet conditions.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of English for communication and following instructions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a physically demanding role or a retail/food service environment (not essential, full training provided).
  • A basic food hygiene certificate or willingness to obtain one.
  • Good time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
