Job Description

Are you a passionate and aspiring food scientist or nutritionist looking to gain hands-on experience in product development? Sobeys Inc. is offering an exciting internship opportunity within our Food Science & Nutrition team in Moncton. This role is designed for an enthusiastic individual eager to learn about the research, development, and improvement of food products, from concept to shelf. You will contribute to projects aimed at enhancing nutritional profiles, improving sensory attributes, and ensuring food safety and regulatory compliance for our diverse range of private label products. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior food scientists and product developers in ongoing projects related to new product development and existing product optimization.
  • Conduct research on ingredients, formulations, processing techniques, and nutritional trends.
  • Prepare and execute experimental trials, including benchtop formulation and pilot plant scale-ups.
  • Perform sensory evaluations and interpret data to inform product improvements.
  • Support the team in ensuring products meet nutritional targets, food safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of experiments, results, and product specifications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including marketing, quality assurance, and supply chain.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute innovative ideas for product concepts and solutions.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of food science principles, nutrition, and food chemistry.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Eagerness to learn and a proactive approach to tasks.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Food Science, Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Engineering, or a related field.
  • Previous lab experience through coursework or academic projects.
  • Familiarity with food processing equipment and techniques.
