Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Phlebotomist to join our dynamic team at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto. This full-time, on-site position offers a unique opportunity for skilled professionals, including those requiring visa sponsorship, to contribute to our mission of providing exceptional patient care. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in venipuncture techniques, a compassionate approach to patient interaction, and a meticulous adherence to safety and procedural guidelines. You will be responsible for collecting blood samples from diverse patient populations, ensuring accurate specimen labeling, and maintaining a sterile and organized work environment. This role is crucial in supporting diagnostic testing and plays a vital part in our patient’s healthcare journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures with precision and minimal discomfort to patients.
- Accurately identify patients and label specimens according to established protocols.
- Maintain a sterile and organized work area, adhering to all infection control policies.
- Process and prepare specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring proper storage and transportation.
- Communicate effectively with patients, explaining procedures and addressing concerns.
- Document all collection activities accurately in the electronic health record system.
- Monitor and manage phlebotomy supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels.
- Adhere to all HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality standards.
- Assist with other departmental duties as assigned.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Phlebotomist.
- Proficiency in venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques for all age groups.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and laboratory procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in specimen collection and labeling.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Basic computer skills for electronic documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) from ASCP or equivalent.
- Experience with pediatric and geriatric patient populations.
- Familiarity with hospital information systems (HIS) and laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish).
