Job Description
Are you a dedicated nursing student eager to gain invaluable clinical experience in a supportive and dynamic healthcare environment? United Health Services (UHS) is excited to offer a Summer Clinical Externship for nursing students like you. This externship provides a unique opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world setting, working alongside experienced healthcare professionals and making a tangible impact on patient care. As a Nursing Student Intern at UHS, you will be an integral part of our patient care team, learning firsthand the responsibilities and rewards of a nursing career. This on-site externship will immerse you in the daily operations of our hospital, offering exposure to various specialties and patient populations. We are committed to fostering the next generation of nursing talent and provide a structured learning environment designed to enhance your clinical skills, critical thinking, and professional development.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist licensed nurses with direct patient care activities, including vital signs, personal hygiene, and mobility support, under supervision.
- Observe and participate in patient assessments, medication administration, and various medical procedures.
- Document patient information accurately and efficiently in electronic health records.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure coordinated care.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized patient environment.
- Actively participate in educational sessions, unit meetings, and skill-building workshops.
- Demonstrate a commitment to patient safety and quality care principles.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program (ADN or BSN).
- Completion of at least one clinical rotation in a nursing program by the start of the externship.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and a patient-centered approach.
- Commitment to learning and professional growth.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or in a similar healthcare support role.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in nursing coursework.
- Active involvement in nursing student organizations.
