Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join our thriving practice in Whitehorse, Yukon. This is a unique opportunity to provide exceptional medical and surgical care in a vibrant northern community. Key Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of surgical procedures, including soft tissue, orthopedic, and emergency surgeries.
- Conduct thorough medical examinations, diagnose conditions, and develop treatment plans for a diverse range of animal patients.
- Provide high-quality preventative care, including vaccinations, parasite control, and wellness examinations.
- Interpret diagnostic imaging (X-rays, ultrasound) and laboratory results.
- Communicate effectively and empathetically with pet owners, providing clear explanations of diagnoses, prognoses, and treatment options.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive medical records.
- Collaborate with veterinary technicians and support staff to ensure optimal patient care and clinic efficiency.
- Participate in on-call and emergency duties as required.
- Stay current with advancements in veterinary medicine through continuing education.
Required Skills
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate experience as a practicing Veterinary Surgeon.
- Possession of, or eligibility for, a valid veterinary license in Yukon, Canada.
- Demonstrated proficiency in both routine and complex surgical procedures.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Compassion and empathy for animals and their owners.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a remote or northern community setting.
- Special interest or certification in a specific area of veterinary medicine (e.g., dentistry, internal medicine, ultrasonography).
- Familiarity with Avimark practice management software.
