Job Description
Are you passionate about making a positive impact in your community? Kent Police is looking for dedicated and community-focused individuals to join our team as Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) in Maidstone. As a PCSO, you will be a visible and accessible presence in local neighbourhoods, providing reassurance, tackling anti-social behaviour, and building strong relationships between the police and the public. This is a vital role focused on community engagement, problem-solving, and supporting police operations. Full training will be provided to ensure you have all the skills and knowledge needed to excel in this rewarding career.
Key Responsibilities
- Patrolling assigned areas on foot or by vehicle, engaging with the public and addressing community concerns.
- Providing a visible police presence to deter crime and anti-social behaviour.
- Gathering intelligence and reporting incidents, suspicious activities, or crime scenes to police officers.
- Issuing fixed penalty notices for minor offences such as littering or truancy.
- Supporting crime prevention initiatives and community safety campaigns.
- Attending community meetings and events to build trust and gather local insights.
- Assisting police officers with routine duties and providing support at public events.
- Dealing with lost and found property, and providing advice and guidance to members of the public.
- Working collaboratively with local agencies and partners to resolve neighbourhood issues.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage respectfully with diverse communities.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to addressing community issues.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
- Good observational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic IT literacy for reporting and administrative tasks.
- Commitment to public service and community safety.
- Must be a UK resident and have the right to work in the UK.
- A full UK driving licence is desirable.
- Minimum age of 18 at the time of application.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a customer service or community-facing role.
- Ability to speak additional languages relevant to the local community.
- Knowledge of the local Maidstone area.
- Experience in conflict resolution or de-escalation techniques.
