Job Description
The Idaho Falls Public Works Department is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Sewer & Drain Maintenance Trainee. Key Responsibilities
- Participate in comprehensive training programs on sewer and drain maintenance techniques, equipment operation, and safety procedures.
- Assist senior technicians in the inspection, cleaning, and repair of sanitary sewer lines, storm drains, manholes, and related infrastructure.
- Operate and maintain specialized equipment such as hydro-jetting machines, CCTV inspection cameras, and vacuum trucks under supervision.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks to ensure optimal system performance and prevent blockages or failures.
- Respond to and assist in emergency calls for sewer blockages, overflows, and drain issues.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, equipment used, and materials expended.
- Adhere to all safety regulations, department policies, and environmental guidelines.
- Contribute to a positive and productive team environment, showing initiative and a willingness to learn.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Idaho Driver's License and a clean driving record.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions, including lifting heavy objects, climbing, bending, and working in confined spaces.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent work ethic and a commitment to safety.
- Ability to learn and follow complex instructions.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work cooperatively in a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of hand tools and power tools.
- Experience in outdoor work or manual labor.
- Familiarity with local geography of Idaho Falls.
- Ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within a specified timeframe after hire.
