Job Description
Are you looking to kickstart your career in the aviation industry? Qantas Airways is seeking enthusiastic and reliable individuals to join our ground operations team as Baggage Handlers at Newcastle Airport. This is an entry-level position where no prior experience is required – we provide comprehensive training to ensure you are fully equipped for success. You will be an integral part of our logistics team, responsible for the safe and efficient movement of passenger luggage and cargo, contributing directly to a positive travel experience for our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely load and unload luggage, mail, and cargo from aircraft and baggage carts.
- Operate and manoeuvre baggage handling equipment, including tugs and belt loaders, after receiving training.
- Sort and transport baggage to appropriate conveyor belts or storage areas.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a secure working environment.
- Work effectively as part of a team to meet tight deadlines and maintain flight schedules.
- Perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling luggage.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items (up to 32kg/70lbs) on a regular basis.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, outdoor, and dynamic airport environment.
- Good physical stamina and agility.
- Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures diligently.
- A positive attitude and a commitment to teamwork.
- Must be eligible to work in Australia.
Preferred Qualifications
- A valid Australian driver's license (Class C or higher).
- Previous experience in a physically demanding role (e.g., warehousing, construction, manual labour) is a plus, but not required.
- Flexible availability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
