Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Criminal Defense Lawyer to join our esteemed litigation team in Leeds. The successful candidate will represent clients facing a wide range of criminal charges, from minor infractions to complex felony cases. This role requires a strong understanding of criminal law, exceptional advocacy skills, and a commitment to protecting our clients’ rights and interests. You will manage your own caseload, conduct legal research, prepare for court proceedings, and provide sound legal advice to clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent clients in court, at police stations, and during other legal proceedings.
- Conduct thorough legal research and case investigation.
- Draft legal documents, including motions, briefs, and appeals.
- Interview clients and witnesses, and gather evidence.
- Negotiate plea bargains and settlements.
- Provide expert legal advice and guidance to clients throughout their cases.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of criminal law and procedural changes.
- Collaborate with colleagues and other legal professionals.
Required Skills
- Qualified Solicitor or Barrister in England and Wales.
- Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience in criminal defense law.
- Proven track record of successful client representation in criminal matters.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage a diverse caseload effectively and efficiently.
- Client-focused approach with empathy and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications
- Higher Rights of Audience (Civil or Criminal).
- Experience with complex white-collar crime cases or serious fraud.
- Fluency in additional languages.
- Membership in relevant legal associations.
