Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Home Inspector specializing in pre-purchase reports to join our growing team in Glenorchy. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting thorough visual inspections of residential properties, identifying defects, structural issues, safety hazards, and areas requiring maintenance. This role requires a keen eye for detail, a comprehensive understanding of Australian Building Codes and Standards, and the ability to produce clear, concise, and professional inspection reports that clients can rely on for their property investments. This is an on-site position.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive pre-purchase visual inspections of residential properties according to Australian Standards (AS 4349.1).
- Identify and document visible defects, safety hazards, structural issues, and maintenance requirements in various building components (e.g., roof, subfloor, interior, exterior, services).
- Utilize specialized tools and equipment to aid in inspections where appropriate.
- Generate detailed, clear, and easy-to-understand written reports, including photographic evidence of findings, within specified timeframes.
- Communicate inspection findings effectively and professionally to clients, addressing their questions and concerns.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and industry best practices during inspections.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections and client communications.
- Stay updated with changes in building codes, standards, and inspection techniques.
- Manage a schedule of inspections efficiently.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Home Inspector, specifically with pre-purchase residential inspections.
- In-depth knowledge of Australian Building Codes and Standards, including AS 4349.1 (Inspection of Buildings).
- Strong understanding of residential construction methods, materials, and common defects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report generation and client interaction.
- Proficiency in using inspection reporting software and digital photography.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Valid Australian Driver's License and reliable transport.
- Exceptional attention to detail and observational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant building inspection certification or qualification (e.g., Certificate IV in Building and Construction, Diploma of Building Surveying).
- Experience with pest inspection (timber pests) is highly regarded.
- Familiarity with local Glenorchy/Tasmanian building regulations.
- Proficiency with specific inspection software like Spectora, HomeGauge, or similar.
- Experience working with real estate agents and conveyancers.
