Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Wayfinding Specialist to join our architectural team in Southbank. This role involves designing intuitive and effective wayfinding systems for a diverse range of projects, ensuring seamless navigation and an enhanced user experience within complex built environments. You will be instrumental in integrating wayfinding strategies from conceptual design through to implementation, collaborating closely with architects, interior designers, landscape architects, and clients to develop comprehensive and aesthetically integrated solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive wayfinding strategies and master plans for various architectural projects, from initial concept to detailed design.
  • Conduct site analyses and user research to understand navigation challenges and user behavior within built environments.
  • Design and specify wayfinding elements including signage, digital interfaces, tactile paving, and architectural cues.
  • Collaborate with project teams, clients, and external consultants to ensure wayfinding solutions are integrated seamlessly with architectural and interior design.
  • Prepare presentations, reports, and documentation for client reviews and project approvals.
  • Stay abreast of industry best practices, new technologies, and accessibility standards related to wayfinding and environmental graphics.
  • Oversee the implementation phase, ensuring design intent is accurately translated into the built environment.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in wayfinding design within an architectural or environmental graphic design context.
  • Strong understanding of human-centered design principles and user experience.
  • Proficiency in design software such such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and CAD/BIM software (Revit, AutoCAD).
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with large-scale projects such as airports, hospitals, public transport hubs, or mixed-use developments.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., DDA compliance in Australia) relevant to wayfinding.
  • Portfolio demonstrating a range of successful wayfinding projects.
  • Experience with digital wayfinding solutions and interactive media.
