Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Part-time Hospital Ward Clerk to join our team, specifically for night shifts and weekend work. This crucial role provides essential administrative and clerical support to our nursing and medical staff, ensuring the smooth operation of the ward during off-peak hours. You will be responsible for managing patient information, handling inquiries, and performing various clerical tasks in a fast-paced environment. This position is ideal for individuals who are organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently and as part of a small team during quiet yet critical periods.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage patient admissions, transfers, and discharges accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain precise and up-to-date patient records, both electronic and paper-based.
- Answer telephone calls and direct inquiries professionally, often acting as the first point of contact for the ward.
- Liaise with medical staff, nursing staff, patients, and visitors with professionalism and empathy.
- Order, manage, and maintain ward supplies and equipment, ensuring adequate stock levels.
- Perform general clerical duties including data entry, filing, and photocopying.
- Assist with scheduling appointments and transport for patients as required.
- Ensure the confidentiality and security of all patient information.
- Support the nursing team with non-clinical administrative tasks to facilitate patient care.
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications, including word processing and data entry.
- Strong organisational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative during night shifts.
- Reliability and punctuality for scheduled night and weekend shifts.
- Ability to maintain composure and effectiveness in a dynamic healthcare environment.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to privacy regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous administrative or clerical experience, ideally within a healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- Experience using hospital information systems (e.g., electronic patient records).
- A current First Aid certificate.
