Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Cattle Yard Assistant to join our dynamic team at our Port Augusta facility. This full-time position requires someone with proven livestock handling experience, a strong work ethic, and a passion for working with cattle in an outdoor environment. As a key member of our yard team, you will contribute to the daily operations, ensuring animal welfare and efficient stock movement. Meals are provided on-site to support our dedicated team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the daily mustering, drafting, and loading of cattle.
- Monitor livestock for health and welfare, reporting any issues to management.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of cattle yards and surrounding areas.
- Conduct routine checks and basic repairs of fences, water points, and yard infrastructure.
- Operate farm machinery such as quad bikes, side-by-sides, and tractors as required, following safety protocols.
- Support vaccination, drenching, and other animal husbandry tasks.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with animal welfare regulations and company policies.
- Work collaboratively with the station team to achieve operational goals.
Required Skills
- Minimum 12 months of proven experience in livestock handling, preferably with cattle.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in demanding outdoor conditions, including various weather elements.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail regarding animal health and behavior.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for minor equipment maintenance.
- Valid Australian Driver's License.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating quad bikes, side-by-sides, or other farm machinery.
- First Aid Certificate.
- Knowledge of basic animal husbandry practices and treatments.
- Prior experience working on a pastoral station or similar agricultural environment.
