Job Description
Join the Maryland Office of the Public Defender as a Virtual Legal Aide and contribute to our vital mission from the comfort of your home. As a Virtual Legal Aide, you will play a crucial administrative and supportive role, assisting public defenders with case management, document organization, client communication, and legal research tasks. Key Responsibilities
- Provide administrative and clerical support to assigned public defenders, including scheduling, correspondence, and record keeping.
- Assist with case file management, ensuring all documents are accurately organized and accessible.
- Draft and prepare legal documents, letters, and forms under the supervision of an attorney.
- Conduct basic legal research and gather information pertinent to cases.
- Communicate with clients, court personnel, and other stakeholders with professionalism and empathy.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all client and case information.
- Support attorneys in preparing for hearings, trials, and client meetings.
- Utilize various legal software and office productivity tools to enhance workflow efficiency.
